Greetings, fellow casuals. January has been quite the month so far. I got signed up for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) classes at my local basilica, I bricked my hard drive because I got mad and smacked my laptop (R.I.P all my Chika memes), and I watched a shit ton of anime with friends. I feel like we got the new year off to a good start with two solid reviews and am looking forward to a great year on the blog!
I hope your Christmas and New Year’s went well and you got to spend time safely with family. I spent the holidays watching three of my family’s five dogs while my dad and brother were on vacation and used 100% of my free time, and some of my work time, to watch all the anime that I possibly could. You were kissing someone when the ball dropped? I was crying while watching Darling in the Franxx. We are not the same.
I can’t say there are many blog updates outside of the schedule. Things have been going well. I have been trying to get more involved in the anime community, but I don’t want to seem too eager or clingy because things remain casual here.
Follow my damn Tiktok, people. I make some pretty fire edits if I say so myself. I think I may start doing shortened reviews on it as well, so look forward to that.
You already got:
You will get (In order):
- Rise of the Shield Hero
You, along with my editor, might be surprised to know that I am already done with Rise of the Shield Hero! Yes, it is I, ahead of schedule for once! It not only makes me really excited because I enjoyed all of the anime I watched this month, but because I feel like I am doing a good job at getting the ideas and right tone across to you guys. Normally, I have to give my friends a look and confirm what I said was funny, but I know you guys laugh without me needing to do that… right?
Next Month (In order)
- Golden Time
- Director’s Cut (Our Monthly Check-ins like this)
- Burn The Witch
- Love is hard for Otaku (By guest writer and editor extraordinaire: Nick Mo.)
- Fire Force
I’ll be honest, I was with my side anime way more with my main anime this month. It’s not that the main anime and I were fighting, but the side anime just sucked me right in and wouldn’t let me go. No, I didn’t finish Shiro-bako.
Somehow, my fellow Lotad Gang member, Randy, roped me into the Fate franchise and now I find myself looking at girls on Tinder thinking they would look better with thigh high socks and a red sweater. Talk about Stockholm syndrome though. I watched all of Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks and both of the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel movies. Holy cow were they intense. Easily some of the best anime that I have watched and really got me inspired to let my mind wander. I have plans to watch both Fate Zero and the last Heaven’s Feel movie as soon as I can. I also have made a bunch of Fate-themed edits on Tiktok, so if that is your thing, go check those out here! Listen, I only made one thirst trap Tiktok and it didn’t work so I won’t do it again, I promise.
After all the excitement of Fate, I took an action break with Tonikawa: Over the Moon For You. What a good show. I did not want to review it because I watched it while it was still airing and I like to binge shows that I review so I can have them fresh in my mind. I enjoyed it enough that I am looking forward to the second season. I tried to explain my crazy theory that Tsukasa is hundreds of years old because she has some weird shit going on with the moon stones and acting like she knew historical figures in person, but my friend Preston just looked at me like I was speaking German or something. Beyond that theory, it’s just a pretty basic rom-com that thrusts two young characters into marriage on a whim. Oh, the jealousy. Highly recommended for anyone who likes romance anime. Will it be a lasting work? Probably not, but I like it.
Finally is my guilty pleasure: Quintessential Quintuplets. Is this objectively good? Not even close. Do I stan Nino so hard that all of my preferences for semi-toxic relationships come out? You bet your ass I do. This is your typical harem anime, but the guy is a poor tutor for rich quintuplets. Naturally the mom is dead and the dad is absent for work, so basically it’s one guy living with five girls most of the time. As you can tell, this obviously sets the stage for a riveting plot with the depth and complexity to balance your anime diet. I put this show down after three episodes, only to pick it back up later that day because I was bored, it got mildly better. I really want to make some sort of content for this show other than a review but I am not sure what to do. If you have any ideas about this, you should let me know.
So overall, we had a solid month! Just last week, we had the most likes the blog has ever gotten in a week and the views are more than I expected given I just kind of write for me and my friends. Each one of you that aren’t that group are just fun people that I appreciate every day I look at the site. Next month is going to be just as fun, so stick around and make sure to send me a tweet or drop a comment on a Tiktok. I always want to know about anyone who reads the blog, so don’t be shy!
For now, the next review is up next Thursday… cut!
